The Media Frenzy at the Southern Border
Hello there again readers and welcome back to Coffee Break Liberty, a blog where we tackle books, news and many other things under the sun where liberty is a guiding principle. For those that have been living under a rock this last week there is a situation with the illegal immigration issue right now that the media is going crazy about. To summarize, children are being separated from their families when they are detained for being in the United States illegally. The policy of doing so has been in place for over twenty years and has been used before but now is getting the attention of the media as the Trump Administration implements a “zero tolerance” policy. There are some troubling things going on at the border and with the immigration policy of this country as a whole, we won’t deny that here. This post though is not going to focus on those issues as much, though we plan to do so in a future post. This week we want to go over how the media and the left now all of a sudden care about what is going on with this policy of separating kids from their families after 20 years. And to clear this up right now, we here do not support this policy of separating every kid from their parents when detained, we don’t have the perfect solution but there has to be a better one than this.
The policy of separating children from their parents, sadly, has been in place for over twenty years as we previously stated. It hasn’t always been enforced in such a manner but the policy was there. In recent years we have seen the policy enforced. During the Obama Administration we saw reports of children not only being separated from those they were caught with but also being housed with drug smugglers and other criminals. Sadly though it hasn’t been until now that all of a sudden we hear about this being a huge issue now that the Trump Administration is running the show. Being played like this by the media is embarrassing and almost comes at no surprise that election season is just right around the corner. We cannot allow ourselves to be played so easily and whipped up into a frenzy by the media.
A little bit of a civics lesson is in order we feel right now too. The congress, legislature, is the branch of government that creates the laws. It is up to the president, executive, to execute and carry out the laws. Now we have seen several times before that what the legislature may not be executed to the letter by the executive branch. This policy of separating children from family members when detained is one of those policies that hasn’t always been carried out. Now though it is being carried out with a “zero tolerance” policy.
As a nation and as simply part of the human race we cannot allow such hate to be stirred up in us by the media. This family separation crisis is an issue, though disgusting, that has been ever present for years. We should be disappointed in our manipulative media outlets. Yet many have allowed the media to whip them up into a frenzy. This is simply dangerous. This is how horrible atrocities happen within the civilian population and how the populace pushes the government to take action when it shouldn’t. When we allow our emotions to get the better of us and cause us to discard our principles even for a moment it is when the rights of others and ourselves are generally in the cross hairs. We have to be more aware of what is going on, this is the age of information, it is high time we use it and not ignore it.
