Old Enough to Kill, Not Smoke

Hello there again readers and welcome back to Coffee Break Liberty, a blog where we tackle books, news and many other things under the sun where liberty is a guiding principle. If this is your first time here we would like to extend a special warm welcome to you and hope you enjoy yourself while here.

This last week the federal government raised the legal smoking age, for tobacco, from 18 to 21. Of all the things that needed “fixing” the government decided this was what needed their attention. $23 trillion debt? Nah. Nearly a two decades old war that still has no end in sight? Nope. The illegal spying on US citizens? Clearly not, that’s for the people’s protection anyways.

To ensure it isn’t lost on anyone, in the United States at the age of 18 you are allowed to sign up for the military and kill people for your government. But that same 18 year old can no longer buy cigarettes. Wanna vote for your favorite politician in the US so your views can be imposed upon your neighbor? Just need to be 18. Wanna take on hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of debt at age 18? No issue there, actually it’s encouraged. But don’t even think of buying a pack of Marlboro reds. That cool cowboy look just ain’t for you kid.

It doesn’t take long and not even much of an argument to see the stupidity of this action taken by the government. All this focus on trying to protect the people from themselves is and well has always been way outta hand. The fact that the government can conscript an 18 year old and take him from his home to kill someone on the other side of the world but not let that same young man smoke is another example of the government and their monopoly on violence.

We aren’t gonna get into the whole “well at what age are you an adult then?” argument here. We will leave that for others to hash out and never agree upon elsewhere.

Here we wanted to bring to the attention of those that were unaware of the new laws and well, get a little rage going early on in 2020!! Sadly this law, we bet, isn’t going anywhere. It will stick around forever just making us all wonder why the government does whatever it is they are doing… oh yeah just pecking away at our liberties.

Thank you for reading and please don’t forget to like and share!

Keep that coffee warm for us
