Those Times I was Surprised by Trump

Hello there again readers, and welcome back to Coffee Break Liberty, a blog where we tackle books, news, and many other things under the sun where liberty is a guiding principle. If this is your first time here we would like to extend a special warm welcome to you and hope you enjoy yourself while here.

Finally looks like the end of the Trump presidency is about here. In a few days, Joe Biden will be sworn in as President of the United States and then we will all be looking at our watches until Harris takes his spot but that is in the future. What I wanna talk about are a few of the things that I was surprised about, in a good way, during the Trump presidency. And a time or two when I was wrong on President Trump and didn’t call it right at all, like not even close and it was a good thing I didn’t.

One major thing that surprised me was his ability to talk to North Korea. This is something I didn’t expect him to be able to do well at all either but to not only have a relationship with Kim Jung Un but also to be able to cross the DMZ and enter North Korea was very surprising to me. Heck, it wasn’t long before that meeting President Trump was calling Un “Rocket Boy” or something like that. Sadly it doesn’t seem like that talks will have amounted to much especially as Joe Biden is bringing in people that will continue the old policies that put Korea in a corner and a position where they don’t wanna talk with the United States.

One of the times I was wrong about what would happen is when President Trump ordered a strike on the Iranian General in Baghdad Iraq. I still view this as an act of war but I certainly thought that Iran’s response would be much greater than hitting a few hangers at an airbase in Iraq with rockets. I thought the situation was going to spiral outta control but that wasn’t the case as the Trump administration was working in the background already to ensure that things didn’t get outta hand.

I was surprised too when the Trump administration made strides towards an actual peace agreement with the Taliban to end the fighting in Afghanistan. Again though, sadly it seems these efforts will have been for not. The other powers that be though, be it in the Afghan government, the Taliban, and other actors seem to want to keep fighting making the idea of peace just a pipe dream sadly.

The last thing that I wanna comment on in regards to foreign policy is that I am not impressed that President Trump didn’t start another war. Sorry but that should be the baseline and ending others should be the goal. He came in with 7 different conflicts going on and there are still 7 conflicts with a genocide in Yemen still taking place that the United States is supporting. Additionally, the troop increases in Africa and South America should not go unnoticed but they are hardly ever if at all, mentioned in news outlets. The empire grew, it didn’t not shrink.

One final thing that I am glad President Trump did was show this all the be a big show and joke that it is in DC. Many of us knew this already but seeing it for what it truly is should have been a wake-up call for millions, sadly though I don’t think it was. The wake-up call that this is all a bad joke paid at our expense was lost on many people as so many were just caught up in Trump himself that they never noticed the curtain and the wizard of Oz hiding behind it. Trump is a pig and loves to play in the mud and all those other goons in DC pretend they aren’t pigs themselves and want to avoid the mud, but they are just as bad if not worse than pigs.
