1st Podium!
The first weekend of April here in Texas is known for one thing in the motorcycling community and that is Fandango! The largest swap meet in the state has also partnered up with Xtreeme Flat Track for the past several years to run races over the weekend as well. This is where CBL racing comes in! It had been six years since I have raced any kind of flat track racing and having races both Saturday and Sunday was great allowing me to get more track time. The crowd Saturday too was enormous and by far the largest amount of people I have ever raced in front of (that might change this fall but more to come on that potential project in the future if it happens) A shake down the week prior at the Waco 1/2 mile just to make sure I could still turn left and it was now race week and what a great time. The vibe in the flat track paddock is so different than that of a road race paddock. Some of the attitudes and positive vibes are certainly the same but the age delta is so much more massive, there were gents out there racing, and doing well, in their 70’s! The track condition was kinda poor at the start of the weekend but with a little more prep and working in the track (running laps to smooth it out and lay rubber down for more grip) we all had a much faster and safer surface to race upon. I entered six races over the weekend and no other way to put it but I was far off the pace but getting faster throughout the weekend and building maybe a little too much confidence. The bike worked flawlessly it was all on the pilot now and well I pushed as best a knew how and was able to secure two 3rd place finishes throughout the weekend! My first ever podium! Making new friends throughout the weekend and looking forward to the next flat track race I will be able to take part in, most likely in the fall, and having a very good friend come and join me in the paddock and even snap some action shots of me! That read brake was crushing it with a shout-out to Galfer for that one, the RK chain held up and my Excel front wheel was putting in the work! The Blud Lubricants held up with no issues and have been a great addition to the team this year. Finally was really glad to get my newest sponsor on the box in the first weekend they had jumped on board, Just1 Helmets! The next race is the last weekend of April where I will be road racing again in Houston and Geno the Liberty Dog will be trackside!
