Trumpcare is Dead and a New Judge via Nuclear Option?
Trumpcare, Ryancare, Rinocare, whatever you wanna call it, the GOP health care bill is dead. Friday it was pulled before a vote even came about. We have a certain group to thank for this, The Freedom Caucus, and we should be thanking them! This new health care bill was awful, not at all looking to actually lower costs to the consumers by the looks of it. This bill didn’t even arrive to the house or senate floor and was pulled, with the GOP leadership realizing they wouldn’t get the votes for the bill to get it passed either of the chambers.
It is very refreshing to see some constitutional conservatives and or liberty minded folks in congress actually stand up to the establishment. These guys deserve our gratitude for what they have saved us from and hopefully, eventually this will pave the way for the Sen. Rand Paul’s health care bill. Remaining optimistic here, a bit anyways.
With around ten days before a vote in the senate over the Supreme Court Justice nominee, Neil Gorsuch, it looks as if we might have to enter DEFCON 1 and go nuclear! I say that jokingly but it does look like the senate will exercise the nuclear option to get Neil confirmed to the Supreme Court. For those not in the know, the nuclear option eliminates the 60 vote majority needed to confirm the nominee. The nuclear option changes the rules to now only need a simple majority. This has been used before and most recently by the then Democratic Party majority in the senate on the confirmation of federal judges. Once the nuclear option has been used, it is in place for good on that certain kind of vote. So now all federal judges are confirmed by a simple majority. The way it looks right now is that the democrats will not vote at all in favor of Mr. Gorsuch thus giving the republican party the option to go nuclear, which they have said they will do. I would like to remain optimistic that the democrats will actually vote for Mr. Gorsuch and thus eliminating the need for the nuclear option. Though I like Mr. Gorsuch and feel we should support him, getting rid of the super majority rule for lifetime appointments is a thing I am not at all in favor of. I don’t think the democrats would be much in favor of it either and it would behoove them to bite the bullet and actually vote for the nominee.
Neil Gorsuch is a great nominee for the Supreme Court, let me say that now and be clear. The man has made some rulings that may seem like he is in favor of the big corporation but anyone that goes through the man’s case files will see a different trend. Neil is a man that reads and understands the law and recognizes that it is not his job nor the court’s job to create law. Those wondering if this man stands for liberty, I assure you he does. He is a friend and an alley, he is a man we want serving on the Supreme Court for years to come.
